If you aren’t particularly a fan of tying and untying every day, there are plenty of alternatives to shoelaces. You can opt for Velcro if you’re choosing a sneaker, but often a slip-on style can be even better.

Although a supportive, cushioned sole is great for your feet, there’s a benefit to having a lightweight shoe. When you lift your foot, you don’t want it to add extra stress. For that reason, some brands specialize in keeping their build light while also building in plenty of support.Whether you’re moving around the house or spending the day touring with friends, a good pair of shoes is essential. As you get older, features like support and comfort become increasingly more important. But you don’t have to sacrifice fashion to surround your feet in luxury and stability. In fact, there’s plenty of attractive footwear that’s also functional. Although the weight of these two shoes is very similar, I did find the 577 to weigh just a little bit less than the 813. This is where you can see the exact weights for these shoes and see how they compared to other New Balance options. Although the 813 has more rearfoot stability, the 577 is made with a polyurethane midsole to help improve the stability of the entire shoe. Because of this, I found the 813 to be surprisingly more flexible (and twistable) than the 577. I’ll let you be the judge: This is where you can watch as I test the flexibility of these two shoes. Although the 813 has more rearfoot stability, the 577 is made with a polyurethane midsole to help improve the stability of the entire shoe. Because of this, I found the 813 to be surprisingly more flexible (and twistable) than the 577. This is where you can watch as I test the flexibility of these two shoes. For comparison, the 1080v12 is my favorite lightweight New Balance running shoe. It provides that “squishy” feeling under the foot. Although the 813 and 577 don’t have this same “squishy” softness, they offer much more support and stability, which is important for many people.

Make sure you take a look at the bottom of a shoe before buying. Some are built to reduce slipping, even when you’re walking over wet terrain. The right shoe can help prevent dangerous falls. Mules feature an especially popular slide-on design. They’re not only easy to get on and off, but the right pair can be extremely comfortable. If you’re primarily looking for something to wear around the house, this can be a much more supportive alternative to house shoes. When comparing the under-foot comfort of the New Balance 813 vs 577, I thought the comfort was very similar. The 577 does have New Balance’s ABZORB midsole for extra impact absorption. Ultimately, both have a comfortable fit. I also found a difference in the weight of these shoes. This is where you can learn more about how these shoes compare regarding weight. Women's Shoes Size & Fit Chart

The sizing length of these shoes is basically the exact same. For most people, these shoes fit true to size regarding length. However, some people find that these shoes fit just a little bit smaller than their normal shoe sizing regarding length. This is where you can see sizing comparison photos for each shoe. New Balance is releasing a “Made in UK” collection to honour the model’s provenance, the U.K., more specifically, its Flimby factory. Its latest release is the New Balance 577 Made in UK Beige Multi. This shoe shares a similar colourway with its sibling in the collection, the New Balance 920 Made in UK Sand. The sizing width of these shoes is also similar. They are both built using the SL-2 last, which is designed to create a wider forefoot and deeper toe box. It’s important to understand that the SL-2 won’t be enough on its own to overcome the need for wide sizing, but it does make the shoe a bit roomier than “normal” shoes. This is where you can see photos of how wide these shoes are (in standard sizing) compared to extra wide shoes.

It’s important to emphasize that although both of these shoes are comfortable under the foot, they are built to prioritize support and stability. They won’t be as “squishy” under the foot as certain types of modern New Balance running shoes. I found the weight and sizing of these two shoes to be very similar (the 577 weighs a little bit less). Regarding sizing, both shoes are designed to have a wider fit with a deeper toe box. Although many people feel like these shoes fit true to size, some people find that they fit just a little bit shorter than their normal shoe sizing regarding length. Although the 813 has more rearfoot stability, the 577 is made with a polyurethane midsole to help improve the stability of the entire shoe. Because of this, I found the 813 to be surprisingly more flexible (and twistable) than the 577. Look at color options for the shoe you’re considering. Some shoes limit their styles to one or two colors. Whatever color you choose, make sure it’s neutral enough to wear with a wide range of items in your wardrobe. Although the shoes I own have laces, you can buy the 813 and the 577 in a hook-and-loop strap version ( New Balance shoes without laces). Both the 813 and 577 are built for stability and support. Although they’re comfortable, they won’t be as “squishy” under the foot as modern athletic shoes. If you prefer that “squishy” comfort, I would recommend the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 or the New Balance 880. As you can see, the New Balance 813 has New Balance’s ROLLBAR technology, which is a medial post below the heel that helps prevent improper rearfoot movement and improve heel stability. In addition to comfort, the build of your shoe should also be designed for breathability. Otherwise, you’ll find your feet sweating during wear, which can eventually promote bacterial growth.
