Description

A fake relationship with a one-night stand is anything but an act in this witty and heartfelt new romantic comedy by Ashley Herring Blake.

As far as fake dating plots go, this one’s pretty good—it involves an extremely queer production of Much Ado about Nothing.perhaps i wanted more of a slooow burn but when stevie put on her big girl pants, i was eating the words as though i were starved let me tell you. I really enjoyed Delilah Green Doesn't Care, I thought that it was a great deconstruction of the tropes that plagued the romance genre. Sure, there's got to be some opportunities but if you really want to live on your talent and craft, you need to go somewhere with enough actual jobs on offer that you can make a living with it. Whether it’s the death of a parent, an overbearing mother, a devastating breakup, or a bad reputation, Blake takes her readers through what it means to be wounded by life and by the people in it.

We get a little bit in the way of Stevie setting boundaries with her friends, explaining what she needs from them, and asking them to respect her as a person and her choices, but it wasn’t enough for my taste. As the two women play the part of a couple, they turn into a constant state of hot-and-bothered and soon it just comes down to who will make the real first move .

There is Stevie's nonbinary friend I guess, but they lack any depth and are also introduced as an identity checkbox, and those identities also apparently make them "the single coolest person Stevie knew").
