Dali has improved on pretty much every aspect of KEF's standard; and that is not to do the Muo a disservice, only that the Katch has raised the bar so significantly in the same way KEF did before it. Having seen DALI’s jaw-dropping full-size speakers, it comes as no surprise that KATCH is a beautifully designed unit. Its pill-shaped aluminium cabinet oozes class, with a glinting chamfered edge lending a little razzle dazzle. The main body feels remarkably solid too, the use of aluminium and ABS/polycarbonate baffles allowing DALI’s engineers to create a structure that maximises internal volume without compromising on rigidity.

In the end, though, the Dali Katch stands alone. It’s the best-sounding, best-looking portable Bluetooth speaker on the market today and deserves all the plaudits it gets, beating my former favourite, the KEF Muo, for sheer audio quality. For a true stereo sound, connect two Katches together, wirelessly. This is ideal for larger rooms, parties or simply for enjoying the music as it was originally intended – in spacious stereo sound. I really like the AptX HD support. It seems to be dying out. I can easily tell the difference between normal Bluetooth and the AptX so one of the main reasons for choosing this speaker. Great sound, clear bass, a little lost outdoors I bought this to replace an old Bose sound link mini. The sound definitely has more “depth” to it, I would guess this is mainly due to the speakers facing both directions. This is great in indoor settings although the sound becomes a little lost when used outdoors. Often we might consider it too harsh a task for a portable wireless speaker, even one costing this much; they’re really just for spitting out dance music at parties, right?
