Overall I can only describe it as a silly book cause I thought Clarice would actually have clues and solve a mystery since she is inspired by a detective/ spy girl book, but eventually everything was resolved on its own. There were 31 highly commended runners-up in 29 years including Lauren Child and Chris Riddell in 1999. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh books, and Child’s characters and stories in many ways echo Milne’s writing as well as Shepherd’s illustrations. In an increasingly fast paced world, children need the freedom to dream and imagine; to enjoy reading, drawing and telling their own stories without value judgement or restraint”. It is not surprising, therefore, that Child gets her inspiration from observing adult behaviour, as well as from memories of her own childhood.

UTTERLY ME, CLARICE BEAN by Lauren Child - Publishers Weekly UTTERLY ME, CLARICE BEAN by Lauren Child - Publishers Weekly

The United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. It has been immensely popular -again, with both adults and children - and the characters now feature on numerous types of merchandise for children.I think that reading this without the veil of childhood innocence and naivety made me feel like a parent reading to their child, or in my case, my inner child. I love Lauren Child's style of writing, so light hearted, she makes the every day amusing and interesting. Clarice was trying to be an undercover detective and mystery solver inspired by her book Ruby Redfort . We're full of giggles at Clarice Bean's takes on things, and the parent references are so funny coming from her mouth "milk is a devil to get out of upholstery".

In Clarice Bean Spells Trouble, Clarice and Betty also watch the Ruby Redfort television series, which was adapted from the books. Clarice Bean Tuesday (age 12), Minal Cricket Tuesday (her younger brother, age 5), who is a "maggot", Marcie Tuesday (her older sister, age 14), Kurt Tuesday (her older brother, age 16), her father, her mother, her grandfather, and her grandmother. Most of these things are just bigger for children because they haven’t learnt to deal with those situations so they seem much more scary. An important plot device is the Ruby Redfort collection, a series of fictional books in which Clarice Bean and Betty Moody frequently find inspiration. Overall, loved this now, and this would also have been my absolute jam as a child because Charlie and Lola owned my whole heart.Liberally illustrated with collage art and told in a breezy, spontaneous first-person narrative that often weaves and winds around the pages, this makes an excellent first book for newly independent readers. It's well written, funny and full of clever little asides about family and school and relationships. As well as being author of several highly successful books, she is the illustrator of the Definitely Daisy series by Jenny Oldfield. I enjoyed the story and that Clarice and Betty Moody used tips from the Ruby Redfort stories to solve the mystery of the Missing Book Report Trophy. this was my favorite book as a child (along with the other two books from the clarice bean trilogy) and i decided to reread it today just for the heck of it!

There is a trace of Eloise's voice in the cadence of Clarice's unfettered, stream-of-consciousness narrative, but her home is definitely not the Plaza. In an age of Instagrammed selfies, live-tweeted dinners, and reality shows for everyone, the Shrimpton family embodies the idea of personal celebrity.

a] "Clarice Bean Spells Trouble" made the shortlists for both the British Children's Book of the Year and the Red House Children's Book Award.

The audio CD edition of Lauren Child's best-selling first novel, introducing Clarice Bean to a whole new audience. I love the fact that this book is like a sort of diary - with Clarice telling about the ongoings in her family and school life. Why not check out Lauren’s author page on Lovereading4kids to see what other Clarice Bean titles there are, both picture books for the 3+ year old and Lauren’s novels featuring Clarice for 7+ year olds. Synopsis: Clarice Bean thinks that something is happening to her family after she reads he favourite book. Though Clarice started life as a picture-book character, Child has now written several novels about her adventures. This is emphasised by the depiction of a child-only world - adults are somewhere in the background, but they do not feature in the stories. and when I was younger I couldn’t keep up with the characters names, as this books has loads of names as the story goes back and fort with them.
