Description

The Crawler features two plaguespitters on its sponsons, though they can be replaced with the included entropy cannons for added firepower. At the front-center, the heavy slugger can be exchanged for a rothail volley gun. However, the most fearsome weapon of all is the plagueburst mortar, situated at the rear of the vehicle. Its targeting mechanisms and enormous barrel dominate the Plagueburst Crawler’s silhouette, striking fear into the hearts of its enemies.

Dry brush a lighter green color onto the raised edges and areas of wear and tear. For example, use Elysian Green or Skarsnik Green to create a worn and weathered look.Paint any additional details, such as the Nurgle symbol or other icons, using a small brush and contrasting colors like Balthasar Gold or Screamer Pink. Take your time and be patient, applying thin layers to achieve clean lines and precise details. Thanks to the changes the Death Guard have had some success recently and there’s a lot more reason for optimism than there was. Major threats in the competitive environment have been removed or toned down and the army just has a lot more to work with. Kevin Rand’s List Shade/start the grimeWhat we have now is a very clean, very rusted tank chassis. There’s no mud or grime (yet). To start building some of that up on the armoured panels, I like to use a brown Ink to give the panels some depth. Over the white, this ends up a little orange which just helps with the rust effect as well. Blood Reaper • Blood Slaughterer • Blood Throne of Khorne • Brass Scorpion • Cauldron of Blood • Death Dealer • Doom Blaster • Kytan • Lord of Battles • Lord of Skulls • Skull Cannon of Khorne • Tower of Skulls

It bears 2 plaguespitters on the sponsons, which you can replace with the 2 included entropy cannon, and the heavy slugger at the front-centre can be replaced with a rothail volley gun – each option is equally potent, but the biggest worry to the enemy is undoubtedly the plagueburst mortar, whose targeting mechanisms and enormous barrel dominate the rear of the vehicle. As the Death Guard Unit of the Week Series (DGUotWS) has been a bit sporadic, Wolf Lord Loki has offered to post UotW topics regularly to start building a good resource for all our plague ridden chums.

Play Style

Calamity Engine • Death Wheel • Decimator • Defiler • Forgefiend • Heldrake • Infernal Bombard • Maulerfiend • Soul Grinder • Venomcrawler • Wirewolf Varnish with gloss coatThis is a very important detail and will help with our next step. Make sure you give the varnish about 24 hours to fully cure. I’ve been told to do this by the research I’ve done (i.e. YouTube videos I’ve watched) and while I don’t know the magic number of hours needed to cure, I do know that I’ve never had an issue waiting 24 hours. I used Testors for this, again.

Heldrake • Stormbird • Thunderhawk • Chaos Storm Eagle • Chaos Fire Raptor • Hell Blade • Hell Talon • Harbinger • Chaos Dreadclaw • Kharybdis Assault Claw • Fire Lord • Doom Wing Aiden took this list to a 5-1, 6th place finish at Warzone Houston but he notably started 4-0 with the list, securing a TiWP for the faction. The PBC is a Deamon Engine. However, unlike all other Chaos legion Deamon Engines, including our own, it does not have a melee weapon or improved WS. In this regard, the PBC a Ranged only threat, whereas all other Deamon Engines are multi-threat. This combo is pretty simple: The Lord of Virulence gives your BLAST weapons +1 to hit and [IGNORES COVER] against anything he can see, and Mortarion prevents your army from taking modifiers to their characteristics and rolls. This means that a PBC shooting an indirect target the LoV can see can hit on 2s, and if you have Diseased Influence up on Mortarion you’ll be re-rolling 1s to wound. This is also a good time to break out the Ferric Blight Stratagem for extra AP, though it only helps on one PBC. The downside here is that it means keeping the PBCs close to Mortarion and that may put too much of your army close together but remember you only need this for targets out of line of sight anyways – your plan with the PBCs should be to play aggressively and get targets in Line of Sight anyways, as the Entropy Cannons are a major part of their arsenal. Deathshroud Terminators Two Plaguespitters: These are the default option and the option that the snap fit drones in the various starter kits come with. It also happens to be my favourite option by far. They each automatically hit d6 times with the assault rule, meaning you can advance your drone 10+d6” and fire your 8” range weapons no caring about hit modifiers or anything like that. This means on average you will be doing 7 hits with this weapon but it is worth remembering you can split its shots. These 2d6 automatic hits come in at strength user with the plague weapon rule, so rerolling 1’s to wound. You are wounding any eldar, guardsmen, daemon infantry etc on a two up rerollable. Even space marines standing near mortarion get wounded on a two up rerollable. The plaguespitters come with an AP of 1 and Damage 1.This basically puts into play all of the things we’ve talked about. You have 3 PBCs with a LoV and Mortarion to support them, dumping out ranged damage. There’s a unit of Deathshrouds to accompany the LoV, a unit of 20 Poxwalkers to tag along with Typhus, A Helbrute to tag ranged targets, and a unit of ten plague marines with a Tallyman. On the subject of Deathshroud, we can’t skip over Typhus any longer. He’s a big, nasty Terminator character but most importantly his ability to throw out D6 mortal wounds at 18″ is huge. When combined with the Chaos Lord’s aura, Typhus can be part of a powerful 1/2 punch that finishes off enemy targets weakened by other units. Equipped with plaguespitters these units really put a lot of pressure on the opponent due to their decent damage output combined with their absolutely top of the line durability. I believe that they should be absolute staples in the mid field to any (competitive) Death Guard army. While the crawler is tougher and cheaper I believe that a good player will be able to do more with the additional benefits of the bloat drone, mainly the fly keyword. However these units are not mutually exclusive and taking a healthy mix such as 2 drones and 1 crawler or even 3 drones and 2 crawlers works very well.
