Description

In view of the wide range of uses of chemicals and apparatus, the customer will be solely responsible for determining the suitability and specification of products, services, information and advice for its purposes. One of the main sources of ammonia in a fish tank is fish waste and uneaten food. When fish excrete waste, it breaks down into ammonia. If the tank is not properly maintained and the ammonia levels become too high, it can have a detrimental effect on the fish. On termination of the contract for any reason the customer shall immediately pay to VWR all of its outstanding unpaid invoices and interest. Confidentiality It is worth noting that while plants and natural methods can be effective in reducing ammonia levels, they should not be relied upon as the sole method of ammonia control. Regular water testing is necessary to monitor ammonia levels in the tank, and if levels become too high, additional actions may be required, such as using ammonia-removing chemicals or seeking professional help.

Suitable for: fresh water, aquariums, aquacultures, ponds, drinking water, lakes and streams as well as rain water The salicylate method is a variation of the well-known phenate method, but it has an advantage of being free from mercury salts and phenol. This method is most useful for low range ammonia nitrogen determinations. Although the procedure involves multiple steps before a final green color is developed, all reagents are contained in convenient powder pillows (salicylate reagent powder pillows and alkaline cyanurate powder pillows) or a combination of powder pillows and TNT vials. The second filter pad is an hydrophobic material that has been treated in such a manner that only the gaseous ammonia is absorbed by the second filter pad. The second filter pad contains an indicator(s) capable of detecting the gaseous ammonia through a change in the pH of the filter pad.

These terms and conditions cover all sales of products and services by VWR International Ltd (VWR) in the United Kingdom and any information and advice given whether charged for or not, unless otherwise agreed by VWR in writing. These terms and conditions apply to the exclusion of any other terms submitted by the customer or which are implied by any trade, custom, practice or course of dealing. Customer Accounts Gaseous ammonia and its concentrated solutions must be handled with care and in accordance with OSHA (or other relevant regulatory agency’s) requirements. This is due to highly corrosive properties that pose serious health risks ranging from mild eye or skin irritation to chemical burning, depending on the concentration. Additionally, off-gassing ammonia can cause aesthetic problems like objectionable taste or odor.

Oxidation of 5-aminosalicylate is carried out in the presence of a catalyst, nitroprusside (also called nitroferricyanide), which results in the formation of indosalicylate, a blue-colored compound. The blue color is masked by the yellow color (from excess nitroprusside) causing a green-colored solution. The intensity of the resulting green color is directly proportional to the ammonia concentration in the sample. The Ammonia test strips are used to test for tank contaminants in aquariums and will detect the presence of ammonification from protein degradation. The chart reads 0-6ppm, 0ppm being ideal, 0.5 to 1.0ppm being stressed, and 3.0-6.0ppm being dangerous. The pH indicator pad in the Ammonia test strip is constructed to react only to the gaseous ammonia generated by the alkaline environment on the first test pad. The unique construction of the strip reduces, and in some cases eliminates the potential for many interferences, such as CN-, Fe, Mn, Ca, etc. Ammonia in groundwater is normal, due to microbiological processes. However, the presence of ammonia nitrogen in surface water usually indicates domestic pollution. Excess ammonia can damage vegetation and is incredibly toxic to aquatic life, especially at elevated pH and temperature levels. Aqua Ammonia Use Ammonia Detoxifiers: In cases where ammonia levels are already high, using an ammonia detoxifier can help neutralize the ammonia and make it less toxic to the fish. These products convert the ammonia into a less harmful form that can be removed through the natural nitrogen cycle.VWR shall under no circumstances whatsoever be liable to the customer (whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise), for any loss of profit, or any indirect or consequential loss arising in connection with the supply of products under this contract; and

Lethargy and Loss of Appetite: Fish exposed to high levels of ammonia may become lethargic and lose their appetite. Ammonia toxicity can impair the functioning of fish's internal organs, making them weak and tired. Fish may appear less active and spend more time hiding. If you notice a sudden decrease in appetite or overall activity level in your fish, it may be due to high ammonia levels.

Red or Inflamed Gills: One of the most visible signs of ammonia toxicity is redness or inflammation in the fish's gills. Ammonia damages the delicate gill tissues, causing inflammation and increased blood flow. This can result in reddened gills and increased respiratory effort. If you observe any abnormal redness or swelling in your fish's gills, it may be an indication of high ammonia levels. Free Super Saver (3-5 business days) – This is a free service using 2nd Class Royal Mail and usually arrives within 3-5 working days. In the event that no one is at home to take delivery, a card will be left for collection from your local post office or courier. Ammonia is formed naturally as a product of the microbiological decay of nitrogenous organic matter (animal and plant protein). It can also be produced for use in fertilizers, or for use in the production of plastics, pharmaceuticals and other chemicals. the total liability of VWR for any loss or damage suffered by a customer in connection with the supply of the products under this contract is limited to the invoice price of the products in relation to which loss or damage is claimed. In some disinfection processes, ammonia is intentionally combined with chlorine to produce monochloramine. Though free chorine is a more powerful disinfectant, monochloramine (bonded ammonia and chlorine) has a stronger residual so it remains in the distribution system longer, thus ensuring disinfection is maintained all the way to the tap. Furthermore, chloramines react less intensely with various impurities in raw water, particularly organic substances, thus minimizing the formation of some carcinogenic disinfection by-products (DBP). To optimize the chloramination process, it is important to monitor the formation of the target disinfectant species, while preventing the formation of less desirable dichloramine or trichloramine (nitrogen trichloride). Monochloramine testing is used together with a free ammonia determination to ensure formation of the right disinfectant and reduce raw material costs by preventing the overfeeding of chlorine and/or ammonia.
